Hence, buy a new one that is cheaper than sending the original back to the factory for a replacement battery. I've tried a list of major manufactures' electric shavers and not found one better than the R600 and its ease of cleaning under a running faucet. Of course, following the recommendation of replacing the cutting blades every 12 months or so helps.

Two weeks ago I read Consumer Report and Remington was rated the Best. I decided to buy Remington's F4790 model and am very much impressed. I have been using it every morning for the past 2 weeks and will for the years ahead! The trimmer is positioned just right to make for easy use and works extremely well. I hold my F4790 upside down when doing the face and right side up when doing the neck. Or vise versa. Why? To get even leading cutting edge blade usage. To prevent one side from always being the leading/cutting edge and extend life of cutter and screen. I clean after each use with a tooth brush. This Remington fits very nicely in your hand and cuts those wiskers CLOSE with very LIGHT pressure. I purchased my Remington at Target as wanted it right away. I strongly recommend this product!! Consumer Report is right on!!

After 4 months,I would never go back to a conventional shaver. I enjoy the ability to shave in the shower and I get a very close shave, very comparable to the conventional razor. It took a couple of weeks for my beard to adjust to the new system and also for me to adapt. I use the normal Nivea shaving lotion, rather than the moistorizing lotion, since it is easy to apply and is more cost effective. I would not go back to the old way of shaving. I am 61 and change is hard at this age, however with the Norelco 8040. it makes it easy.

I use the clipper style attachment to cut my hair on my head down to stubble, and then use the foil attachment to get a close shave. Some people may want their shave to be just as close as with a razor, but the cleanhead will cut it pretty close as long as you keep it cleaned and it has a strong charge. And you can't cut yourself (as in draw blood) with this as you can with a razor which is a major plus. The way it is shaped, it glides over your head very easy. It does take a while initially to get the hang of it, but once you do, it gives pretty good results. I use electric shaver pre-shave on my head to make the hairs stand up for easy cutting. I tend to use it for just a few minutes every morning to maintain my bald style.
At some point i'm hoping Conair will sell replacement foils and blades for it to keep it working at 100%.

(More customer reviews)For me, getting a haircut has always been a bit of a hassle--taking time off work, driving half-way across the city to the barber shop, getting into the shop only to find that half a dozen other people are ahead of me, hoping that the available barber doesn't leave me looking any more ridiculous than I already naturally look, etc. When the owner of my regular barbershop recently passed away and his shop closed as a result, I was all of a sudden in the market for a new barber. I was a little surprised at how difficult it is to find an old-fashioned, no-nonsense barber. It seems that the vast majority of men's haircutting joints these days are "stylist" operations. They want to fluff, puff, gel and otherwise pamper your hair, with the end result being that you wind up looking like an androgynous rock star, all for a hefty price. Not my style--I'm a conservative guy and I want to look that way when I get out of the barber chair.
After not having much luck finding an old-time barber, and doing a little online research, I decided to give the Wahl self-cut clipper a try. My biggest complaint about barbers is that when I tell them I want my hair cut "short," they almost never cut it short enough to suit me. I'm not sure whether they are afraid that they will cut it too short, or whether the name of the game is to get me back into the shop as soon as possible. In any event, I figured that this self-cut trimmer would at least solve that problem in that I would be in control of my hair length.
The kit in question includes an ergonomic, L-shaped trimmer with a unique four-position rotating head, the latter of which allows the user to easily reach every part of the head. It has a comfortable padded handle and is powered by rechargeable nickel-cadmium batteries, so there is no inconvenient cord in the way. A red light-emitting diode on the handle illuminates when the unit is charging. According to the instruction manual, the trimmer can be left plugged into the wall outlet without danger of overcharging, so it will always be ready for use (although Wahl recommends that the unit be periodically charged and discharged to prolong the life of the nickel-cadmium batteries). The trimmer can be operated on batteries or, if the batteries are discharged or low, using the included charger/adapter. Also included are: ten clipper guides (which attach to the trimmer's cutting blade and which regulate the length of the cut), ranging in size from 1/8" to 1", including left and right ear taper attachments; a pair of scissors; a blade cleaning brush; blade oil; a styling comb; a nice cloth storage case, and, needless to say, operating instructions.
Wahl divides the head into three cutting zones: the lower part of the head (running from the bottom of the hair line to the top of the ear); the middle part of the head (running from the top of the ear to the top of the head); and the top of the head (hereafter referred to as low, middle and top). You start cutting the lower zone first, using the largest (#8, 1") guide. If that guide doesn't cut your hair short enough, you then go over the same area using the next smallest guide (#7, 7/8"). You keep doing this until you find a guide that cuts the hair to the desired length. Once this has been established, you simply increment the guide length by one size for the middle and top zones. For example, I found that the #4 (1/2"), #5 (5/8") and #6 (3/4") guides for the low, middle and top zones, respectively, produced just the right length of haircut for me. It is VERY important that you start with large guides and work your way down to the size that produces the desired result, taking off a little at a time. Starting with a guide that is too small will result in hair that may be too short for your taste (or even an unintentional scalp job!). Once you establish which guides produce the best haircut for you, you can use those guides thereafter with no need for further experimentation. Wahl has a free online instructional video on its Web site (http://consumer.wahl.com/selfcut/index.html), so you can see the product in action.
My experience? While I was initially worried about doing a scalp job on myself (if this happened I figured I could give myself a buzz cut and tell everyone that I was a Marine), I was very pleasantly surprised with the haircut that this self-cut trimmer produced and I'm now a believer. In my opinion it resulted in a haircut that is at least as good as one that I would have received in a barbershop. Not only is my hair cut to the length that I want, it looks neat, tight and conservative--just the way I like it. I also have the added satisfaction of saving a bundle on haircuts. Where I live, a basic haircut can easily set you back $20 (more for so-called "stylists"). At that rate, and if you get your hair cut at least once a month or so, it doesn't take long to recoup the cost of the trimmer. When I told my male co-workers about this trimmer, they looked at my hair and then asked me where they could buy one (several have), so I guess that the haircut can't be too bad. I'm also now cutting hair for the male members of my family using this trimmer--they get just as good a haircut as they would get from a barber and they save $20 or so in the process. I'm very happy with this product and definitely recommend it.

Then I owned a great Panasonic that lasted another 10 years until I lost the shaver head out the window of my car (don't ask). Since the battery was clearly getting old, decided to try a new $100 Panasonic, most I'd ever paid for a shaver. It was good initially, but the battery quickly showed signs of aging and after 2 years, I could barely get 2 shaves out of it before it needed a full recharge again. Worst part was the suprise of not being able to shave with it while it was recharging.
So it was a delight to find this Remington on a Clearance endcap at Best Buy back in 2006 or 2007. It's been a really good shaver until just recently.
Pros:
Can shave with it whether plugged in with the cord and recharging, or cordless.
Can wash and clean it under the sink instead of all these silly cleaning systems that are prevalent in high-end shavers.
Used to get 12-14 shaves out of it before needing a recharge.
This was my first Norelco-style shave head. I found this style shaves more surface area at a time, so I finish faster.
Cons:
The beard trimmer broke after only 1.5 years of use.
This style of shaver head makes it very difficult to get the follicles on my upper lip, just under the nostrils.
I'm sure the battery is still strong, but something about the electronics has gone weird. Something between the power button and the circuitry that detects low batter is messed up. I'll get maybe one shave after a full charge, then it will light up the red LED indicating the battery is empty. But if I keep pushing the power button, eventually it'll turn on again and give me a complete shave, all the while with the red light blazing indicating there's no power. It will still shave just fine when corded.

Some longer hairs are left and it takes many back and forth moves to finally clean some of those. It does leave the face snooth in general, however. Nothing significant, certainly nothing that could possibly affect the product's functionality, but it reflects a lower standard of quality control than you would expect from a $30 razor case, UV or not.
Now for the clincher. Be forewarned: this product does not fit the Gillette Fusion ProGlide Power, despite the claim that it "Fits men's and women's razors, including Gillette & Schick". Sure, the ProGlide physically fits in the sanitizer, and you can close the cover, but the razor head is positioned so far forward and above the UV source that it is unlikely to come into contact with any of the UV rays, thereby rendering the sanitizer useless with this particular razor. It would be great if Violight could post a list of supported razors, instead of a blanket statement that it fits certain brands.

I bought this to replace an old Braun razor that I liked, but the trimmer broke, so I thought I would try a different brand. The Panasonic had some good reviews and the ads were compelling. I found that it gave a much poorer shave and had many design flaws.
Pros:
-Quiet to operate compared to many electric razors
-Cleaning system is a nice feature, though not really necessary
Cons:
-The center cutters are part of the shaver head and not replaced when you replace the regular foil and cutters
-The shaving surface is much narrower than the plastic head, so you can't get very close to "obstacles" like ears and noses
-The shaver is underpowered and slows down with a heavy beard, and hence takes much longer to fully shave
-The shaver just doesn't shave closely and misses hairs. It has no where near the speed and closeness of my older Braun, or even
an old Remington I used before the Braun.(but the Remington was LOUD)
-In addition to it being a poor performing razor, it has one really, really, irritating feature... It has a blinking LED light
on it that blinks when you place the razor in the cleaning/charging station. This is as bright as if you had a neon sign right outside your window... "EAT AT JOE's..... EAT AT JOE's....", completely absurd design.
-I find the flexible head to be unnecessary, and the angled surfaced to be bothersome (to the point where I sometimes found
it easier to shave holding the razor upside down.)
Summary: Keep looking, this is not an electric razor you will be happy with. (p.s. I did buy a new Braun 790, and it is quite similar to the old Braun, it gives an excellent, fast and close shave, is quiet, has the cleaning station, but it does not appear they have improved the trimmer, so be careful using the trimmer, there is a weakness in the elbow where it flips open and closed)

(More customer reviews)I had never heard of an "epilator" before a few days ago when I was researching different hair removal methods. I had been through depilatory creams/foam (yuck, never again), home wax (too messy, painful, and it removed like.. 2 hairs), and razors (which I used regularly, it grows back too fast). I had no idea that this type of product even existed.
I bought it today at the store and used it right when I got home, on my legs. When I turned it on I sort of freaked out at the noise (it's a loud buzzing noise like an electric razor) and the image of gigantic tweezer blades rapidly snapping away at my skin filled my head. I took a deep breath, sprayed my skin with bactine (I read that it's good to somewhat numb the skin with bactine before trying it), dried it off, and tried it.
Wow.. it wasn't even very painful. The soft cushiony area massaged my skin as the hair was pulled out. The pulling sensation felt like tiny little pricks. The one thing I recommend is to glide the device slowly, at a 90 degree angle, over the skin. It is more effective and time efficient. I know that I'll get better at it with time, but for someone who has never epilated before, it was very easy and I am *very* satisfied with this product.
I also tried the device on my underarms. It was awkward at first - I had to grip the device tightly because the frequency of the hair being pulled out was more than my leg. Having more hair in a smaller area also made it a little bit more painful - but it was definitely bearable.
I'm glad that I finally found another hair removal option that can be done in just a matter of minutes and lasts for more than just a day!

(More customer reviews)I use a blade most days, but on the weekends I use a fairly new Braun self-cleaning electric. While I always feel the blade is better than the electric, I tend to "touch up" both shaves with this pretty inexpensive, battery powered Rem on my way to work.
It's old, rarely cleaned and always mistreated (it lives in the glovebox here on the Bayou), yet it does a great job on those tough areas. For this kind of money, I'd say it's a steal, or better stated, a Remington Steele ;)

(More customer reviews)Quick, cheap and simple. The hard part was making sure I was ordering the right part (thanks to the Norelco website it wasn't too difficult). Replacing the heads made sense to me - why toss out a perfectly good shaver if the unit can be made to work as if new with the purchase of new heads? The razor works great with the new blades. They were simple to install. Note: it took longer to open the industrial strength packaging than it did to install the heads.
There are three complaints: 1) choosing the right replacement should be easier, 2) there was a good deal of wasted packaging, and 3) the cost of the heads was over half the cost of an new razor. But all-in-all a good choice.

I might have gotten a defective one, but Remington responded to an e-mail saying (verbatim) that "We do not warranty products that are purchased that have been refurbished. We are sorry for any trouble this may cause you". DON'T BUY this shaver. Or any Remington shaver if you don't want to run with the risk of ending up with a piece of junk in a drawer.

Cons:
1) Bigger than the M3 (not by much), but enough to make shaving under the nose harder than with the M3. The trimmer is single blade and not very useful.
2) Different blade design means you can't use M3 blades. For several generations in the past, you could have used the previous blades.
3) Shave similar to M3 (see above).

After 2 months of hardly any use, it's totally dead. Something in the internal mechanism is perhaps loose and no change of battery makes any difference: the on/off switch moves but all you get is the "OFF." I didn't realize it at the time, but this item is identical to one of my husband's trimmers (suitable for perhaps sideburns or evening up the back of a man's haircut). That one still works but this pink one sure doesn't! Don't buy this one, spend a little more and get a real shaver instead of this toy.

I had considered purchasing one of the more expensive Panasonic shavers but I decided to give this one a try because the price was so good. I have been using this shaver for several days now and I am very pleased with it. It is a gorgeous shaver and even better than I had thought it was going to be. It comes with a charging cord and travel case. It is very quite compared to most shavers. It gives the closest shave that I have ever had and I have tried a number of different shavers made by Braun, Remington and Norelco. It shaves the cheeks, upper lip and chin super fast without irritation but it takes a few extra passes on the neck for me personally. It can be used wet or dry and it cleans easily by rinsing it under water. Amazon is currently selling this shaver for about half the price that most other retailers are charging for it. If you are considering purchasing it then I would suggest doing so while the price is low.

This nick would tear into my skin and cause my face to bleed while trying to shave. This part was a perfect replacement and I'm very satisfied with it. The only minor problem I have is that my original razor was black and this part is gray causing it to stand out. Again, this is not a big deal and I would highly recommend this part to anyone looking to replace their OEM foil screen.

My husband doesn't appreciate that. Anyway, I digress. I saw this at the pharmacy as I was shopping for other things. I decided I'd give it a try b/c it says it's Painless. It really is. This is just like using a razor. It does not pull the hair from the root. It just cuts it off at the top. But I was able to get my legs to feel really smooth. My leg hair was fairly long and I had no problems with the Clio. I'm really happy with it. I haven't tried my bikini yet. The only downside to it is that it's pretty loud.

One note, Amazon shipped this to me in a non-rigid bubble pak, and the shaver foil was badly dented on arrival. The return process was very smooth however and I received a replacement very promptly. They didn't even wait for the old one to reach them before they shipped the replacement.

Although it does work and provides acceptable performance in my 8000 Series shaver, it is inferior to the previous version. I have a heavy beard and this new version is more prone to nicks and cuts on my face. Evidently Braun has changed the manufacturing quality for this more "universal fit" model. The product illustration shown on Amazon is not what you will get. It was delivered promptly and the seller, Shaver Outlet, was willing to accept it for return and refund if I chose to return it - I kept it, otherwise I would have to throw away a $150.00 razor. I've enjoyed Braun Shavers for many years, but all good things must come to an end sometime.

This is a review of six products and this same review is posted on each product's Amazon site. The products tried were (in order of preference): Williams Lectric Shave, Electric Glide Formula (California North), Afta Pre-electric by Mennen (original), Skin Bracer, Eltron Prep and Kinexium Shave Oil by King-Of-Shaves.
I have used an electric shaver for more than 30 years and, for the first time in over 20 years, am trying these pre-electric lotions again after having shaved without these the last 20 years. In general, these all provide a noticeably smoother and less irritating shaving experience. They don't speed up the process, but do allow for a close shave while minimizing the shaver `burn' sensation that follows shaving. The trick is to find the one that you prefer based upon application, performance and odor.
Bottom line: Despite the superior application and lower `oily' feel of Afta, I had to go with Williams Lectric Shave. It is easy to wash off (if you wish) and has a mild and pleasant odor. Electric Glide Formula is a very close second and I alternate between the two, but use Williams Lectric Shave much more often. Williams Lectric Shave has the least amount of 'gumming' in the blades vs. the Electric Glide Formula (which can be heavy).
The gel consistency of Afta is much better for application than the liquids (which run through your fingers, like water), but only Afta is a gel. It's surprising: you'd think they would all be scrambling to offer the superior gel consistency or, at least, put the liquids it into a spray pump. If you put the Williams Lectric Shave and Electric Glide Formula into sample-sized spray pumps, spray them on your face then spread with your hand, you will have a much better and less wasteful experience.
Application (applying it to your face):
Using a spray pump for the water consistency products is a must. Without a spray pump, application is difficult and wastes product (as it runs off your hand)
- Afta has a gel consistency that makes application easy and can sting.
- Electric Glide Formula has a water consistency and no sting when applied.
- Williams Lectric Shave has a water consistency and can sting.
- Skin Bracer has a water consistency and can sting.
- Eltron Prep has a water consistency and can sting.
- Kinexium Shave Oil is like spraying WD-40 onto your face: VERY oily and is no longer a candidate.
Shaving:
They are ranked in order of preference. Most of the products cause `gumming' of the beard trimmings in the shaver blades. This will require more frequent cleaning of the shaver than shaving without them.
- Afta has less of an `oily' feel to it that is easy to wash off. There is no 'gumming' (clumping of the beard trimmings in the blades).
- Williams Lectric Shave has a moderate `oily' feel that is somewhat easy to wash off. There is very little 'gumming'.
- Electric Glide Formula has a moderate `oily' feel that is easy to wash off. Heavier 'gumming' vs. the above two.
- Skin Bracer has a moderate `oily' feel that is difficult to wash off and can cause `gumming'.
- Eltron Prep has a moderate `oily' feel that is difficult to wash off and can cause `gumming'.
Scent following sink washing of the face:
These will all stay with you for many hours, so you better like what you pick (ranked in order of preference).
- Williams Lectric Shave has an `evergreen' odor.
- Electric Glide Formula has a mild citrus odor
- Skin Bracer has a moderate lime odor
- Afta has a strong musty `woodsy' odor.
- Eltron Prep has a `skunk' type of odor

The trimming guard (comb) broke after about 10 uses. I fixed it (glued it back together) and it broke again (in a different place.) after 2 uses.
Panasonic does offer replacement combs but the shipping cost is more than the cost of the part. (And, as of today, the part is backordered.)
Do you self a favor, spend your money on a different razor. If you buy a ER 224, you will soon be buying a new razon anyways.

Norelco tells you to replace the heads every 12 months, however, that can be excessive in some situations. If you use your Advantage shaver in a dry mode (without lubricant), then replacing the heads yearly is about accurate. However, what Norelco doesn't tell you (and the reason why most people buy an Advantage) is that if you use this shaver when your face is warm, wet, and with a lubricant (i.e. shaving in the shower) then you can easily go 2 years without replacing the cutters.
The reason for this is because dry shaving with an electric razor is extremely hard on any blade (not just these ones). By warming and wetting your face and whiskers with water and a lubricant (there are many to choose from), you can decrease blade wear by about 60%! It's also more gentle on your face and can prevent/decrease razor burn.
Skin Care Tip:
If you're concerned about healthy skin, skin cancer, and/or want to keep your skin looking young as you get older, it's best to apply an after shave lotion on your entire face with SPF shortly after the shave, while your pores are still open. You also need to apply it every day, not just on days that you shave. Pay the extra and get an after shave lotion with SPF and NOT a big bottle of generic sun block; you just might end up smelling like coconuts. The lotion can be a little pricey when you see the size of the bottle you get for your money, but just remember what your buying it for. And lastly, and this is VERY important, make sure that it blocks both UVA and UVB; not all of them do.

I'm guessing that most people are buying this more for the foil than the blade. One problem with shavers with this kind of screen foil is that once in a while, the moving blade underneath cuts a hole in the foil. Unfortunately, this is a "sudden failure" event rather than a "slow wear and tear" event. This means that every day there's the same probability that you will end up back on Amazon ordering yet another replacement pack. It could be six to twelve months from now. It could be tomorrow.
The replacement pack is what it is. If it's too annoying, switch to a whole other type of shaving system (electric or otherwise).

As in the case of my walkman,it's amazing how such a magnificent piece of electronic engineering can be rendered so user-unfriendly by poor interface design.
This shaver is good enough to keep once you're paid for it, not bad enough to justify buying a new one, but I'm very disappointed.
The beard trimmer projects out less than half an inch, about an inch down from the top, which makes it cumbersome at best, as you practically have to hold the side of the whole razor against your face and barely see what you're doing. (The last Braun I owned had one that projected a full inch, near the top, allowing you to direct the cut and still see what hairs you're cutting)
On the plus side, it is extremely rugged (so it's unlikely to break anytime soon, I'm afraid), well shaped for use, and recharges superbly. The so-called cutter is useless, but the main foil section works beautifully, so if you don't need a quality beard trimmer (as I do) then it's a good value. And it's at a pretty good price...

(More customer reviews)I switched to electric shavers a few years ago when I kept getting cut with blades, even the triple blades razors. My first eletric was not a wet-dry model, nor a Panasonic, and after awhile I went back to blades because the electric just didn't shave very close. Then I learned about Panasonic's wet-dry electric and bought one. It was a double-blade model that shaved well and lasted a long time.
When this ES7058 was released, I bought one right away, so I have been using it for a very long time. The price was right for the features and after using a wet-dry model, I'd never buy anything else.
I have no complaints at all. The triple blade shaves much closer than any electric I've used before, practically indistinguishable from the triple-blade conventional razors. Quite honestly, the Panasonic does not shave as close as they do, but it is darn near as close, certainly not enough of a difference to make me revert to a blade razor.
The alcohol-free cleaning system is outstanding, too. I clean the heads every other day, which is more than sufficient.
Tip: The thinner you spread shaving cream over your face the quicker and closer the shave.
Tip: Some Panasonic shavers are "rinsable" rather than true wet-dry. the 7058 can get wet all over, you can hold it under the faucet stream or use it in the shower. This isn't true for rinsable shavers, which are watertight only for rinsing under the faucet.
Tip: I've used Edge saving gel for almost 30 years. Recently, a friend recommended Shave Secret (shavesecret-dot-com) and after two days I was converted. You can get it as Walgreens and I found it definitely helps the razor shave closer.
Bottom line: My full endorsement of this shaver. If I lost mine I'd buy another one just like it.

Now, it's important to remember that opinions about shaving are similar to religious beliefs; they're fanatically held, and believers seem willing do fight to the death on behalf of their favorite system. The variance we see in razor reviews is no doubt caused by the individuality in our faces. This means that every razor review-- including this one-- is very much an individual, personal opinion. I do think that some people are unhappy with their electric razors mostly because they don't prepare their faces well. It's critically important to avoid moisture because it swells up the whiskers, and they won't fit into the little holes or slots on the razor's head. A smooth, dry face definitely increases the chances for a good, comfortable shave.
With that in mind, I've used various blade systems-- most recently the Gillette Fusion-- and several electric razors-- most recently the Braun 8595-- over the years. Of all of them, I like the Norelco arcitec 1060X best.
The shave it provides is very comfortable and uniform, better than what I could get with the Braun. The famous Norelco "floating head" system on this shaver conforms very well to the curves on my face. In about five minutes, I can get a close, uniform shave with no razor burn. In addition, the Norelco is very light weight-- almost startlingly so-- and very quiet. I can actually shave without cranking up the volume on my radio.
One of the best features of the Norelco is the ease of cleaning. The whiskers are trapped in little cups underneath the three cutting heads, and after each shave, you simply flip up the cutting heads and rinse everything off with hot water. The Braun is a "self-cleaning" system that requires regular replacement of a cleaning fluid reservoir. It's somewhat pricey and definitely messy. The instruction manual for the Norelco says that the cutter heads need to be replaced once a year, but I haven't had it long enough to know whether my mileage will vary.
The 1060X comes with a "Power Pod." This is actually a hard-shell carrying case that holds the razor and cleaning brush and doubles as a charger. This is great for travel, since it protects the razor. In fact, it's necessary for extended travel, because there's no way to run the razor directly off of the power cord. For home recharging and storage, there's a very nice looking stand the power cord plugs into.
There is a higher-cost version of this razor, the arcitec 1090X, but the only real difference is the display that shows the battery status and need for cleaning. I personally don't think the spiffier display justifies the difference in cost.
The bottom line for me is that the Norelco arcitec 1060X is a well-built, easy-to-use machine that delivers a very good shave and requires minimal upkeep. I like it a lot, and if I had to buy another razor today, I'd buy this one again without any hesitation.

(More customer reviews)I was replacing an old Remington DA-407, which I have used for about 15 years, but which is no longer made. I liked the Remington dual blade/dual screen implementation, but found that most of the newer models now have 3 blades and 3 screens. OK, time for me to move up to the triple class. I didn't want to spend a lot, and some of the newest models were selling for $80 or more. I'd spend that if I had to, but wanted to spend closer to $50. I required a model that would work with a discharged battery, using the cord or with a charged battery, without the cord. I found the MSC-2700, which appeared to have all the bells and whistles, but was maybe one generation older than the newest. It has metal sides and not what appears to be a rubber coating on the newest models.
Now that I have shaved with it for about a month, I can report that I am happy. My unit is not noisy, as some reviews had mentioned. The also mentioned issue of capturing cut whiskers among the foils and allowing them to fall out when the shaver is tipped I find to be not a problem, but an advantage. A lot less whisker and dust get trapped inside and has to be brushed out. I get about 7-8 shaves between recharges. The shaver allows you to clean it by running the cutters under a faucet, but I find that drying the unit afterward is difficult. The brush does the job just fine.
All in all, I'm very happy. Thinking about buying a second one and putting it away for later use.

(More customer reviews)I purchased the Philips Norelco 8020X Moisturizing Shaving System as a replacement for my Norelco 5801XL Reflex Action Shaver. My decision for a new shaver was based on the need for replacement blades coupled with the NiCads no longer holding a good charge in the Reflex. Initially I looked at display shavers at Target and was considering a shaver in the Philips Norelco Arcitec line. Since the Arcitec's were the most expensive and wet, lotion dispensing shavers seemed gimmicky, I figured the Arcitec was the way to go. I never even considered a foil shaver as I have always believed rotaries are better. I don't know why but it's just like some people think Toyota is better than Ford.
I began to read some reviews on the various shavers. It seemed to me the common thread was Norelco's Moisturizing Shavers faired better than the Arcitecs. I thought I would give the 8020X a try. I believe shave quality is the same for the 8020X, 8040X and 8060X . Price difference is based on secondary features like auto lotion refill, shorter charge times and longer shave times. I made the decision to buy the cheapest in the line, based on parallel shaving performance between the three.
Instructions were simple and set up was easy. Out of the box I charged the shaver for the required 8 hours. I then filled it with the trial size Nivea for Men Shaving Conditioner supplied. This was simple and there was no mess. The back of the shaver is transparent and you can see when you have filled it to the max line. Wait a couple of seconds between pumps, as the lotions seems to expand inside the shaver's cartridge once dispensed (overfilling just wastes the lotion as it dispenses from two blade centers).
In addition to face shaving I also shave my head. I have very little hair on the crown and normal hair growth on the sides and back of my head. I was never able to get a good head shave with my previous Norelco and I used Schick Xtreme 3 blades for my head.
My first use of my 8020X was in the shower shaving my face and my head. I dispensed the entire cartridge of conditioner during this process. The shave was comfortable as I am already used to rotary shave. The closeness was about the same as the Reflex on the face and it did a fairly decent job on the head (it looked closer than it felt).
I contacted Norelco via live chat. I inquired about using a shave gel, which I can apply directly to my skin due to the amount of conditioner I used, dispensed through the shaver. My thought is this would be more economical. I was informed I can use Nivea for Men Shaving Gel, but other products might harm the shaver.
Upon my second use I figured out a pretty good system. I applied the shave gel to my head and shaved my head. I then moved on to my face using the conditioner dispensed through the shaver. Both products complement each other as they are scented the same. This worked well. Due to the gel and conditioner I was able to make more passes over the stubble for a closer shave without fear of burn or irritation. The result was the closest, most comfortable shave I have ever received with an electric shaver (this is my third electric).
Don't judge your shave right out of the shower. Wait until you have dried off and your pores close. Then feel your beard. Your shave will feel much closer than when you initially finish your shave.
If you're not interested in a wet shave or shaving in the shower I wouldn't recommend this shaver, even though I haven't tried it dry yet. It doesn't catch cut hair but this is a non-issue in the shower.
This shaver, partnered with Nivea for Men, is a shaving system I recommend if you want a comfortable and close shave.

I followed the instructions and was very pleased with the results.
I can't say for certain it returned it to brand new condition, but definitely good enough to save me from buying new blades, so has already paid for itself with first use.
Since not every razor is assembled the same way, reasonably so, the instructions are pretty loosely stated, presuming that the user knows how to disassemble their razor.
I have added a ~5min video documentation of the sharpening process for my Philips/Norelco 7110X (a very popular electric razor with the added trimmer on the back) to demoonstrate how easy and quick it is.

(More customer reviews)To properly evaluate the new Gillette Fusion ProGlide Power razor, I decided to compare it to the new Schick Hydro 5 and my normal razor, a Schick Quattro Power. All started with a new cartridge and a fresh battery as applicable.
I'll begin by saying that I've been using Schick razors for about 40 years and have not been too impressed by most Gillette razors. In particular, they tended to clog up more and were harder to keep clean. I was expecting to be underwhelmed by the ProGlide as well.
ProGlide vs. Hydro 5
Initial impressions: Packaging: Both come in the standard plastic clamshell, but the Gillette is easier to open. The back is perforated for easy opening, where the Schick is more child-proof and requires a sharp object to open it.
What's included: The Gillette comes with only one cartridge, where the Hydro comes with two.
Holders: the Gillette snaps snugly in to the included plastic holder, while the Schick holder just has a small pin to locate the razor. You could use the Gillette's as a travel holder with no problem.
Guarantee: The Schick comes with a money back guarantee. The Gillette assumes you will like it.
The razors: While the Gillette looks more substantial, both weigh 1.4 oz fully loaded. The Gillette has a single blade trimmer on the back of the cartridge. Flip the razor 180 deg to use it. The Hydro's trimmer is under the lube strip that you flip back to use the trimmer.
Cartridge mounting: The ProGlide cartridge slides on easily and snaps in place. The locator pin also acts as "suspension" for the cartridge pivot. The Hydro is a bit more imprecise. You have to line up two small spring loaded fingers on the handle with tabs on the cartridge. Not hard, but not as elegant as the Gillette. The Schick cartridge is smaller than the Gillette...less waste.
On initial "hefting" the Gillette felt better, but in use both were comfortable and easy to maneuver.
The Shave Test
All of the above are secondary to the "Yes, But How Does It Shave" test. I shaved half of my face with the Gillette and half with the Schick, using Proraso Shaving Cream and a badger bristle brush.
Shave No. 1: (3 Day Growth)
The ProGlide felt smooth in all directions, with and against the grain. No pulling on the neck or under the chin. The trimmer was easy to use.
The Hydro was smooth on the cheeks, but pulled noticeably on the neck, especially against the grain. It left a couple of small "razor burn" marks on my neck. To use the trimmer you have to hold the razor with one hand and flip back the cover with the other.
Both razors rinsed clean easily with no clogging.
The Wife Test: Immediately after shaving, Mrs. Boilermate judged the Gillette side marginally smoother, but said that side felt sticky. After my face "dried" she still said the Gillette side was smoother.
Shave No. 2: (2 Day Growth)
The Gillette was smooth while the Hydro pulled noticeably on the neck and under the chin. The Gillette side was again judged smoother in the Wife Test.
ProGlide vs Quattro
Shave Nos. 3 and 4 were done with a two and three day growth respectively using the ProGlide and a Schick Power Quattro (with a new cartridge and a fresh battery).
The first thing I noticed is the ProGlide is noticeably quieter, where the Quattro sounds like an electric razor by comparison.
In both tests, the ProGlide performed as before, with no pulling or burning. The Quattro pulled slightly on the neck, but substantially less than the Hydro did.
As before, the Gillette side was judged smoother by Mrs. B., tho by a similarly small margin.
So what's not to like? The price of the cartridges. Schick cartridges are cheaper across the board than Gillette. Power ProGlide carts are about $4.00 apiece, where Quattro Power carts are about $2.50 each.
While the ProGlide gives an excellent shave, doesn't shave enough better to justify switching from the Quattro based on the cost of the cartridges.
Overall, though, the Gillette Fusion ProGlide Power rates five stars. As a life-long Schick user, I was pleasantly (and unexpectantly) surprised by this razor. If you can get past the price of the cartridges, I highly recommend this razor.

Infiniti Shaver Review

I chose the Conair "Infiniti" based on attractive appearance, unique slimmer and lighter design, and features. Price was a bit high, but I think it was worth it. It was easy to use and handles nice. It also features two shaving heads with foils and a pop-up trimmer if you desire to use it. I found the two heads to have an advantage over the others I've tried with one. You have to look carefully when shavers say they have features such as "three heads", etc. The Panasonic I used up until now boasted three heads when in fact it was just one large head, one pop-up trimmer, and one designed only for much longer hairs (which it states in the instructions as something like 1/2" or more?) which is kind of dumb to have something like that for women's legs. At least I would hope so. Anyway this Conair gave me a much quicker and easier shave and is great for stubble especially. With the Panasonic and Braun, I had to go over and over my legs. I suggest to not push hard when shaving...try and use a firm but light touch. The head on this model is flexible, which helps with curves or bumpy areas such as knees or ankles. It is quiet, the top snaps apart for cleaning, and it has an easy to use charging stand. Also comes with a cleaning brush, instruction book, and razor head cap/cover. I recommend it.

Philips Norelco 1250X SensoTouch 3D Electric Razor with GyroFlex 3D and UltraTrack Review

(More customer reviews)Bottom-Line: On balance I am very disappointed in the SensoTouch 3D 1250x Electric Shaver, so much so that I think I'll be going back to the tried and true Advantage 7735X.
Over the years I have tried a number of razors--any number of traditional one-to-four blade straight (disposable) handles, as well as electric units from Remington and Norelco. All of them irritate my skin to some degree and leave razor bumps (Black men are more susceptible to razor bumps than white men because of the course curly nature of our hair). Traditional razors tend to irritate my skin the most, and through experimentation over the years, I have found that Norelco brand razors tend to irritate my skin much less than all the others. So, I have stuck with Norelco for the past fifteen years or so.
The best Norelco model I ever owned was the Advantage 5655 that I received for Christmas some 11 years ago. I did some research and was intrigued by what I found to say the least; a razor with a lotion dispenser built into the unit. Good bye after-shave! So, well, I begged my then fiancée (now my lovely wife), for one and got it on Christmas day (she got her Sonicare which she begged equally for), and lets just say I was as happy with my gift as she was--and is--with hers (she loves the Sonicare and finds excuses to brush her teeth).
But, occasionally I like to shave in the shower in order to save time on those rare occasions when I am running late, so about five years ago I turned to another Norelco model, the Advantage 7735X, a cordless electric razor that can be used in the shower. The Advantage 7735X is similar in every respect to the aforementioned Advantage 5655, except for a cleaner design and a water resistance.
But the Advantage 7735x is getting a little long in the tooth, so I started casting about for a replacement electric shaver, one that would give me the same level of closeness. Recently, a SensoTouch 3D 1250x Electric Shaver, by who else, Norelco feel into my hands and I put it to the test.
Since I shave my head and face at least three times a week, it is important to me that any razor I use shave closely without, again, irritating my skin. After several weeks of use I have been very disappointed in the SensoTouch 3D 1250x Electric Shaver performance; after I shave my scalp is often dry and somewhat flaky in need of lotion, but no shaving bumps so that is a great outcome.
First Impressions
Unlike the Advantage 7735X, which comes with 5 lotion packs by Nivea that are easy to insert into the back of the razor, the SensoTouch 3D 1250x Electric Shaver does not come so equipped. And that for me is the main disadvantage of the razor; while the Advantage 7735X shaves closely, without lotion, and even better with it, without some sort of moisturizer the SensoTouch 3D 1250x Electric Shaver fails to shave as closely as I'd like.
You can also use shaving cream with the SensoTouch 3D 1250x Electric Shaver, but that can get a bit messy (I only tried it once) and the shave was not much better and the reason I use an electric razor is so I do not have to use shaving gel!
I like the design of the unit, it is cutting edge and stylish. The razor fits easily into the hand and while running the SensoTouch 3D 1250x Electric Shaver is quieter than the unit it replaces. The small collapsible trimmer in the back of the unit works well.
Charging, Recharging, & Cleaning
The SensoTouch 3D 1250x Electric Shaver is cordless and comes with a charging stand that can automatically switch to the prevailing voltage, so traveling overseas will not be an issue. It also comes with a carrying case large enough to hold everything that comes with the razor, including the charging base, and a small cleaning brush.
The razor's rechargeable battery pack adds little weight to the package and the SensoTouch 3D 1250x Electric Shaver really feels quite light in my hands as I shave, and the charge is enough to last me a couple of days of shaving without recharging. However, I usually place the razor back in the charging stand when I am done shaving. A series of (5) green LED lights on the front of the razor illuminate solid when the razor is fully charged.
Other indicators include An LED in the shape of a faucet that illuminates when the razor heads need to be cleaned. There are also LED's for Low Battery, and Travel Lock.
The shape of the razor may take some getting used to, but now I have the hang of shaving with it in either hand. Cleaning the SensoTouch 3D 1250x Electric Shaver is simple: after every shave I open the hinged heads and run them under hot tap water while the blades are stopped. Using this procedure usually dislodges even the most stubborn hair strands. The instructional booklet recommends manually cleaning the head assembly with the included brush, and then soak them in warm water.
Conclusion
I have owned three other Norelco razors, and the only one that shaves as close as the Advantage 7735X was the Advantage 5655. On balance I am very disappointed in the SensoTouch 3D 1250x Electric Shaver, so much so that I think I'll be going back to the tried and true Advantage 7735X, or perhaps try a new lotion pack model; the lotion packs agree with my skin.
And the really good news for my fellow razor bump suffers: I have not had a single bump since I started shaving with the SensoTouch 3D 1250x Electric Shaver that at least is plus for the razor.

Instead, I made a strap out of two 1/4 inch wide tie wraps to see if strapping the top plunger down would work. The strap worked perfectly. I then made a more permanent strap out of narrow nylon strapping. Simply hold the plunger down, slip the strap around the whole unit, and clean and charge the shaver. This is a cheap and simple fix that works.

(More customer reviews)Over the years I have tried many electric shavers from Braun, Philips/Norelco, Panasonic and others. It would always come down to the same thing:
- you have to go over the same spot multiple times to get it smooth and in the process of doing so the skin becomes red / inflamed. Wearing a shirt with a collar afterwards is torture let alone wearing a tie!!!!
- I then had to use all kinds of soothening lotions to get the skin to cool down and could not shave for several days
- hairs would become ingrown and infect under the skin after a while
- the electric shaved would never really get clean and clog up, more so the sink looked discussing after cleaning
Result: I'd run back to the latest in manual wet shaving under the shower: Mach III or Fusion etc.
I purchased this because of the airline security rules re liquids etc on board. Every time I would have to hand over my foam and lotions and in some cases even my aftershave.
So I read up on what electric shavers would work to remedy all the above. The Braun and Panasonic come close and I decided on the Panasonic ES8228S (recolored version of the ES8109S, otherwise mechanically identical). The reason I did not take the Braun is that I like the shaving under the shower, in front of my fog free mirror.
My skin has fully adapted and I certainly do not have the inflamed skin -rash I had with other brands. With Lectric Shave it is actually similar in feeling to a wetshave and I really feel just as closely shaved. I have a heavy heavy beard growth and believed on hand wet shave could remedy but that is not true!
Secondly, it shaves close. People say as close as a wetshave and I tend to agree that it comes VERY close to that. I have shaved against the growth direction with wet shavers all my life (otherwise I can't get anything smooth) and this can NEVER be accomplished with an electric shaver, I think, however, this can shave you smooth but probably not as "deep" under the skin line as a wet shave would. Close enough NEVER to want to go back to a regular wet shave.
However, the shave is very close and close enough to look as smooth (but not feel) as a through close wet shave.
The shaver works under the shower and that is bliss. I can combine my shower routine with a shave, like I am used to! Love that. Also, when using cheap shaving foam it works great as well. Not that the shave is closer but it helps my skin and a smooth glide. Especially combined with a short Lectric Shave spray before hitting the showers I can get myself baby smooth.
Finally, the cleaning station is a very hygienic method of cleaning. No tiny hairs in the foils or sink, definitely a welcome addition. The cartridges are also VERY affordable and last about 3 months a piece. Worth it!
Also note that this shaver works in 110v to 220v outlets and you can simply plug the electric cord from the cleaning unit in the back of the shaver when travelling.
Conslusion:
not as perfect as people state but certainly very close to a wet shave (but not fully there).
Final thought: this is indeed a 'pretty' version of the ES8109S which you can get for around 100$. The 60$ extra I paid is for the wood and gold trim.
UPDATE: the hair trimmer / clippers on these tend to die over time. Mine did on the ES8228 and subsequently on a new ES8109. Even on my wifes 8077 (for her legs!) it happened. Bad clipper = minus 1 star.

According to the packaging, it's made up of millions of "micro sillicone beads". It does have a slightly gritty feel to it (though nothing at all uncomfortable), which makes the "sillicone bead" description sound reasonable.
Applying Hydroplane is pretty simple: just rub it into your skin after you've thoroughly moistened it with water, then shave normally. Hydroplane is persistent, so it won't dry up like some shaving lubricants, and it doesn't require any additional water after it's been applied. It'll easily last through your entire shave.
Lubrication, irritation protection, and nick protection are all excellent. Hydroplane washes out of your blade very easily, too, with one of the lowest gunk factors I've experienced in a shaving lubricant. As shaving lubricants go, I can find no fault with this one.
Hydroplane is a premium product in every sense of the word. A 236ml (8 ounce) bottle retails for $20 from the Billy Jealousy website (at this writing). The bottle's a good size, and it'll last a while (you only need a small amount for each shave), but it's still very expensive.
Overall, Billy Jealousy's Hydroplane shave cream may be the best shaving lubricant I've ever used (and I've used dozens of them over the years). It's expensive, but it's worth the price, in my opinion. If you're looking for a very close, comfortable shave with no irritation, Hydroplane is very much worth trying out. I am impressed.

(More customer reviews)I saw the "Clean X Change" at a local big box retailer. What caught my eye was the claim that it shaves "with less irritation." Nanosilver head might be just the thing. I figured if its real bad, I can send it back to Remington with the money back guarantee. Price not too bad...
You are supposed to charge this shaver for 24 hours before first use. When you turn it on, its louder than a good Norelco, but not too loud. Its really basic, one button on & off, a couple of lights on the side. Not real big or clumsy and easy to grip. Solidly put together.
I found that it does give a really GOOD shave. Why? If you have a problem with neck hairs that grow in all directions, that lay flat and are thin and soft, this shaver can get them. I found that your typical electric shaver will give a decent shave on certain parts of my face, but never all. Sometimes, I will use two brands of shavers to get it right. But I was surprised to find that the Remington Clean X Change can produce a fast, close and comfortable shave all by itself...!! Amazing..!!
And yes, VERY LITTLE irritation..!! And I use it without a preshave lotion or powder. The trimmer folds out at a ninety degree angle and is easy to use.
I don't know what the suits were thinking at Remington, but I hope they don't change it. (You know they will...)

(More customer reviews)I read the previous review and agree with the single head vs the 3 head when it comes to cleaning. That's as far as I will go. My whiskers curl. If I skip a day of shaving, my old single head with the 3 floating blades is not near a good. I get a little razor burn and sometimes ingrowns when using my very good single head.
I have learned it is a good idea to clean after every use or plan on replacing the head annually through the "program". This device takes care of many of the issues with the single head design. It is more work to clean than flipping open the single head. The heads really float much bettter with my aging head and face. I find the three head design with the three separate heads designed to pick all types of hair do what they are supposed to. I think this beyond whatever I could image for a shaver. They do tell you in the instructions that it takes 30 days for your face to adjust... I quit using my safety razor and switched to this exclusively vs a 50-50 use of the prior method; safety and singel head system. I am 65 and have done a bit of shaving over the years. I love this razor.
This price is better than the discounted price I paid at the heavily discounted department store.

(More customer reviews)If you read the description closely of the Gillette Fusion product as put out by Gillette, you will see that Gillette doesn't actually claim that you get a closer or even better shave. They very cleverly use terms like "a better way to shave" or "30% closer blades", and there is a reason for this. The reality is that very little (if any) improvement in the actual shave itself has been made since the 3-blade systems. And Gillette knows this through their own internal research. Their studies show that customers can't discern the difference between 3-blade and Fusion systems. It is all just perception. However, Gillette with these newer hyped blade systems is able to charge a lot more for the replacement blades and reap higher profit margins than the older blade systems. The reason I know is that I have a cousin high up in one of these companies.
Here is another interesting tidbit you probably didn't know about all of this. Have you ever wondered why the original blade that came on the actual razor you purchased seemed to last much longer than any of the replacements. Well there is a reason for this too. The blades that go with the razor packages actually come from a different stock, which are made much sharper to give a better shave and last much longer. Gillette doesn't want folks to get a bad first impression. As you probably know, they don't make money on the razors. The real money is with the replacement blades. And the blade stock used on the replacement blades is inferior and much duller to get folks to replace them faster.
With the significant price difference between the older 3-blade systems and newer ones like Fusion, folks really are better off saving their money and sticking with the older systems.

I bought the refurbished one at $22 and it is worth that, but not a penny more. It does not give a close shave without going over your face several times. My Norelco worked this well when the blades were 8 years old!
I admit, I usually had to shave twice with the Norelco, but the Remington is not nearly that good. To get a decent shave, I have to press pretty hard and go over each area several times. I end up with a bit of redness from the pressing that I have to do to get the shaver to work reasonably well.
If you're buying a shaver for $40, save your money and find a Norelco that's on sale.

(More customer reviews)My four-year-old son is a typical whirling dervish when I try to cut his hair (but he's a little angel when I take him to a professional barber--go figure). In the past, when I've done the cutting, I've used the adult clippers that I use on my own head. So, I thought perhaps he'd be a little more accommodating if I were use something like the Philips model. Mmmn, not so much.
Just to make clear what I'm comparing the Philips model to: I use a Forfex clippers model on my own head; it cost about $120 or so, is rechargeable/cordless, and comes with lots of attachments. Before I owned that, I had a cheapo Wahl model, maybe $25; it had a cord, got very hot, and made loud zapping noises when I turned it on. My parents had one just like it when I was a kid, and I remembered being scared by that zapping.
The Philips model *is* quiet--but no quieter than the Forfex model. I'll go out on a limb and say that most rechargeable clippers are going to be of similar quietness.
It is very nice that you only have to worry about two adjustment add-ons (the slide-on adapters that let you set the length of hair cut, from 1 inch to 1-3/4 inch with one adapter, and from 1/8th inch to 7/8ths inch with the other adapter). But the adapters seem pretty flimsy to me.
Furthermore, the product description talks about "Rounded tips [that] protect skin and ensure a comfortable cutting experience," and that's true, but only if you keep the adapters on. On the smaller adapter you can get down to 1/8th inch, and that sounds pretty close, but it didn't get close enough around the ears. So, I removed the adapter to trim around the ears, and of course, when Junior did his Linda Blair imitation, I nicked him.
With the Forfex model I use, you can adjust the cutting depth without an adapter from 0.8mm to 2.8mm. On the Philips, without the adapter, I'd estimate that the minimum cut is about 0.8mm too--but you can't adjust it any higher. The minimum cutting depth with the smaller adapter is 1/8th inch, which converts to about 3.0mm. So, you can either cut at 3.0mm and avoid nicks, or cut at 0.8mm and risk it--and nothing in between.
I do like that it's a pretty nice kit, with the shawl (er, "stylist's cape"), storage pouch, etc.
I realize that's it's not a fair comparison between a $40 product at a $120 product, but I did find other cordless/rechargeable products on Amazon in the same general price range--even one made by Philips: Philips Norelco QC5055 Power Hair Clipper. Perhaps they're not *quite* as kid-friendly, but I don't think the difference is huge.

The most recent past generation of Microscreen razors were great if you shaved every day - but I don't shave every day. I procrastinate and shave every 3rd or 4th day and the Microscreen razors just didn't do it! You had to use every trick you ever knew to go over certain areas time and time again and even changing the blades and screens didn't improve the quality of the shave.
So I decided to try this latest generation and if these didn't work - then sayonara to Remington. IMHO, this is the best Remington rechargeable yet! Almost four days since last shaved and this razor did the whole thing and did it well without having to use the separate little cutter blade which was always a last resort. I wish the build quality was a bit better but for what it's supposed to do, I'm impressed. And with the previous Microscreen razors, you never got more than 2 shaves before you had to recharge it. This new one looks like it will go alot more than 2 shaves before needing recharging.

I think that the expensive enhancements with the power comb in the Series 5 and the pulsonic technology in the Series 7 razors do not really help in making a faster or closer shave, but do add significantly to the price. I do not think the auto cleaner is worth it either as my razor cleans easily without having to buy the cleaner cartridges or keep that huge auto cleaner on the bathroom counter. I like how the Series 5 fits my hand and face though as compared to my old Braun, so I'm glad I made the upgrade.

It was a replacement for my Panasonic Wet/Dry Ladies Shaver ES204V. This shaver also doesn't give me a smooth shave and I think part of the problem with my skin getting knicked is because I have to keep going over the area several times to get a smooth shave.
Also when I use this shaver on my bikini area it leaves little razor bumps and itches when it starts to grow back. With my old Panasonic shaver I didn't have that problem.

They are pretty cheap, and I've done about a dozen haircuts with them, but I am looking for a different brand this time. The button just doesn't make sense. You have to hold the button down the whole time you cut your hair.

- With a shaver razor in place, this body groomer works on body hair much faster than trimmer only. With older trimmer, it often takes quite a few passes to achieve the same effect.
- Versatile. There are many different modes of usage - trim, shave, or combined. You can easily switch back and forth without having to deal with various different tools.
- Standard Gillete razor cartridges. I would rate the groomer much lower if it required razors specialized for this model only. With standard Gillete Fusion razors, you can easily replace them at just about anywhere.
- Charges fairly fast, and a full charge can take on just about any grooming job from start to finish.
- Appears to be solidly built. Feels nice and solid when holding it in hand.
- Mostly water-proof makes this razor shower friendly.
Cons:
-Priced slightly higher, in my opinion.
- While the shaving and trimming work quite fine on their own, the combination mode takes practice. It's not easy to get the angle just right. And the combo mode is complete useless when it comes to "tricky" places.
- I have a Braun rechargeable razor (for facial hair), and it has a completely different charger. I know this problem is not necessarily limited to Braun, but it would nice for a change to have a sharable charger (especially between two Braun razor products!).

Very effective when used dry, too. Started using it again regularly just a few days ago when my good old Norelco suddenly broke beyond repair (it was while searching Amazon for a replacement Norelco that I saw this Emerson). After 6 months in a drawer it still held more than enough of a charge to shave with. It kind of vibrates a lot, but I don't mind that. A charge is good for a few shaves. The trimmer is pretty much useless. Came with a soft "velvet" pouch, cleaning brush, extra screen and charger. Outside finish is good, the plastic is average for a cheap shaver, and when you remove the head to clean it, you can see it's not top quality. Interesting how much it looks like the Panasonic ES4026NC Pro Curve. At CVS this is only $9.99 and at that price it can't be beat. In fact, now that I see the $39.99 cost (the reason for 3 stars; at 9.99 it's 5-star) here at the time this is written, I may pick up another as a spare, especially since I don't know how long it'll last; at $9.99 if it makes it 6 months to a year it's worth it. I wonder why it costs so much here and some other places; I recall once seeing it under another name, not Emerson, at some store like TJ Maxx and it was only $9.99 there, too.

Braun 360° Complete Shaver - 8985 Review

(More customer reviews)I've owned this shaver for a few months now, and love it. I've only used electric shavers for about 30 years, and my last three were all Brauns. They consistently give the closest shave I've ever received, and they last for years. The foil head, the "power comb", and especially the pivoting head combine to work exceptionally well. I highly recommend any of their shavers. However...
This is the first time I've purchased one with the Clean & Renew base, and honestly, I'd recommend purchasing a model without it. The base station unit adds a lot to the price, and I don't think it adds that much value. In addition, the base and power cord are very poorly designed. The plug on the end of the cord is huge and juts straight out from the wall, getting in the way and taking up a lot of counter space unnecessarily. A right-angle plug (like the ones on every 20-dollar hair dryer) would be much better. The other end of the cord is just as bad! The connection to the base station sits at an odd angle, sticking out from the side and making it almost impossible to sit the station against a wall.
One other power-cord-related issue: this shaver comes with a protective travel case, but the case ONLY holds the shaver... the cord can't fit with it! You have to pack the cord separately. Not a big deal, but it just seems like an obvious oversight.
All in all, the shaver itself is terrific, but if you're strapped for counter space near your bathroom sink, I'd look for one of Braun's units with the swiveling head and not the Clean & Renew base.

Thus, you have to plug/unplug the charging cord connector from the bottom of this trimmer whenever you use this. The other option is to leave it plugged in - meaning you'll have lots of slack cord on your counter-top and the storage base will likely tip over when the cord catches on it - like it did for me this morning.
UPDATE:
I have lived with this item since August 17th and finally threw it out this evening.
My older Panasonic ER411 blows this trimmer out of the water in terms of trimming effectiveness.
For what it's worth, I'm a mechanical engineer and a detailed oriented person. This device simply doesn't trim well and the base is essentially a useless piece of plastic.

First of all, the packaging nor the unit doesn't tell you how the batteries are inserted (very confusing with springs on both ends for both battery inserts), and the shaver doesn't "shave" the fuzzies off the sweater. I went over my daughter's sweater over and over and nothing~ Don't waste your money or time on this one.
