(More customer reviews)This is a good shaver (so far). Each cutting head contains two rings of cutters which spin and cut (unlike the old shavers which had one) and the shave is quite close. This is just about the same as the Norelco SpeedXL series (which has 3 rings) but its less expensive and those two rings should be 90% as effective as 3 rings. My skin has not been irritated by this shaver at all. In use it feels like the battery is weak, but I think this is just my imagination because the shaver doesn't buzz loudly like my old Norelco, the quietness is almost disconcerting. Yet, it has had no problems shaving so far and my beard is a pretty tough cut. When you're done shaving you can rinse this unit out under water, an essential feature. The shaver comes with a nice little carrying case and is a lot smaller than it appears in the picture, even smaller than the typical Norelco rotary...unlike the Remington Flex which is huge.
I was going to spend a lot more and I was almost pulled into one of those more elaborate units (Norelco moisturizing or Remington Flex 360), but why? Eventually I concluded those are mostly marketing gimmicks, let's face it, a shaver is a shaver. Most of those technological "advancements" are not necessarily advancements, but rather ploys to sell more units, or to sell cleaning or shaving fluids (where the real profit is made). Even if there are some other new advancements out there, usually there is a downside such as tendency for heads to pop off (Remington Flex 360), or complexity of design/weak motor axle (Norelco Arcitec). This one uses proven technology and applies it at the right price. Heck its so cheap that even if its goes bust you can get another for practically the price of replacement shaving heads. Or you could buy two and keep one at the office, with change to spare. If you do get it, make sure to charge the thing 24 hours before use like the manual says so as not to hurt the battery. The only hesitation I might have is about the battery, will it last? Only time will tell. But overall, I'm perfectly satisfied...its way more cost-effective than disposables.
