A poor immitation of a Norelco or Remington shaving system. Very poor immitation. Why do I dislike this toy so much? Let me count the ways:
(1) IT CANNOT BE RUN BY THE POWER CORD - it must be charged for 24 hours in order to operate (it simply will not work sooner and will not work if plugged in). The battery dies in a matter of days even if it isn't used, so you have to wait another 24 hours to recharge. So there is a lot of mind space wasted on keeping the razor charged. But not overcharged, because this kills the battery. And there is no indicator for full charge. The battery must be replaced by a professional for a fee which is more than the cost of the razor (I paid $40 at Macy's for my Norelco). Both Norelco and Remington can be used either by a charged battery or by the power cord.
(2) THE BLADES PULL ON THE HAIR, BUT LEAVE STUBBLE - I have used Remingtons and Norelcos. They seem to compete for "thin micro screen" or whatever they call it nowadays. The idea is that the thinner (and more delicate) the outer mesh screens, the closer it gets to the skin. Tell this to Bell & Howell who have a thick screen. Explain this to their Chinese reverse-engineers.
(3) THE POWER CORD IS NOT COILED - Norelco and Remington have convenient, easy-to-pack coiled cords.
(4) THE PROTECTIVE PLASTIC TOP DOES NOT STAY ON THE RAZOR - it just rests there, ready to slide off under its own weight. Both Norelco and Remingtons have plastic blade covers that snap on and can stay on upside down.
(5) THE CORRUGATED BAND AROUND THE HEAD IS MERELY DECORATIVE - it is clearly a copy of the Norelco design from 15 years ago, but that band used to be a rubber slider that adjusted the angle of the heads. Today, Norelcos have auto-adjust. The Bell & Howll is nonadjustable.
(6) IT USES 4 SMALL WIDELY-SPACED HEADS - the commercial advertised this as a good thing. "If three works, four is better" - but this is not true. The three larger heads on a Norelco are positioned at the corners of a triangle with little space between. When the head is moved across a beard, the third blade is positioned in between the other two. The whole area gets cut. There is a big space in between the four blades on the Bell & Howell.
(7) IT SOUNDS WHINEY - compared to Norelcos and Remingtons, which "hum".
The Bell & Howell is half the price of the other two brands. But it is one tenth the quality. Don't buy Bell & Howell!!!
