I finally trashed my old Norelco that was worn out in all regards. It's been years since I've purchased an electric shaver, and I was a little surprised . . . .
The current line of Norelco's hardly resembles my old worn out one (is it just me, or don't the new ones rather evoke thoughts of the Martian creatures in "War of the Worlds?), and they have become much more pricey. I've owned a couple of Remingtons and both were disappointments. Braun sounded good but I investigated and I AM NOT going to pay that for a razor. I'll use a propane torch first. I don't shave in the shower (nor brush my teeth, comb my hair, or read my mail there), and I don't need a gadget razor that squirts gook on my face or cleans and massages itself or whatever. I just wanted an excellent quick shave with a simple, well designed unit at a reasonable price.
This factory reconditioned Wahl met what I was looking for in spades! Five Stars Mama! I didn't even know that Wahl made personal shavers (duh), but the name immediately brought back childhood memories of the neighborhood barbershop and the "Licensed Barber" in his pressed smock reeking of Witch Hazel and deftly wielding an awesome polished aluminum Wahl. And for about $25 bucks! You have to me kidding me. That's about the price of a set of replacement cutting heads for most shavers. Or a quarter tank of gas.
What I received from Goodman's was slow in coming and barely met the Amazon time deadline. It was professionally packaged and identified as "reconditioned" by Wahl. I inspected it closely and have not been able figure out in what way it is not brand new. (Are there recycling drop boxes out there somewhere for your worn out Wahl shaver)? I'm wondering if the "refurbished" angle isn't some marketing schtick to allow them to sell a new shaver at what appears to be a price well below market value (this thing isn't a Rolex, but you know what I mean).
I am delighted with the quality and the excellent comfortable shave. The pop up trimmer cutting array is full width, but seems a little "petite" compared to my old Norelco. It performs a little differently but I've adjusted to it and it is adequate. The foil head design shaver glides smoothly and cuts close and comfortable. I've used it for about a week and the initial charge is holding up fully.
Besides all of that, the unit is manufactured right here in the Miswestern USA . . . NOT CHINA. And even more, although I'm not an official "environmentalist", I like the idea of rebuilding a rebuildable machine and getting full use out of it instead of filling up landfills with stuff that shouldn't be there yet (may my old Norelco rest in peace).
I'm glad I stumbled onto this jewel. I'm looking forward to my shaves again. Heck, I may even use this thing to go Brazilian!!
