I had a lot of broken guards and the blades were starting to make a lot of noise. I did some research and found these to be a decent set for the price. It has so many guards and the clipper itself cuts really solidly. I like the extra trimmer to cut the sideburns. I cut my hair every 2 or 3 weeks now and have no worries that it isnt cutting evenly. If it does cut unevenly its my fault! Overall im very satisfied and would buy it again. Amazon was even cheaper than walmart for me when i check the prices. Go do some shopping.

(More customer reviews)I'm not sure what the previous reviewers were expecting, but I thought this was an excellent product. For trimming along the bikini line, the trimmer head was perfect, and the number 4 setting (one comb has settings from 1-4, the other 5-8 increasing in length) on the trimmer head left the bikini area a very reasonable, trimmed length.
Without the extra combs, it does cut closely, though not as close as a blade razor. It's perfect for trimming down longer hairs before going in with a razor, or for a quick skim before putting on a swimsuit, especially if you're not a fan of putting sharp, large, awkward blades in tight places. And not cutting quite as close really reduces razor burn and ingrown hairs. I did nick myself once, but it was more of a pinch and I hardly felt it. As long as you turn the blade so it stays even with the skin from edge to edge, it's easy to avoid nicks. Being able to use it dry makes it a lifesaver for quick fixes.
For someone who doesn't do a lot of work down there and just wants to stay neat, it's perfect. Far less work than shaving all the time, far less expensive than waxing, far less drastic than both. And at this price, it doesn't cost much more than a pack of new razor blades. For my money, it's the best twenty-some dollars I've spent in a long time.

To this end, I purchased a Braun battery operated razor for our trips. I was never happy with the results (I hated the "foil") and when I saw this inexpensive, battery operated Phillips (Norelco), I purchased it and couldn't be happier. It's smaller and more compact than other razers and delivers a smooth, complete shave. I hope it continues its performance in the future. Only time will tell. Maybe, someday, they'll sell it in retail stores in the US, but the internet purchase was quick, probably cheaper and easier.

Over all I am very pleased. Like other reviewers I think on the legs and armpits it works best in the shower when you are nice and lathered up with soap - the lather helps get rid of the friction as the head moves over the skin and it's a much smoother shave. I found that without lather the movement was somewhat jerky, the head didn't slide over the skin and smoothly and it was more painful.
On the legs and especially the shins, it's still painful although not as painful as another epilator I had tried. It works absolutely great (when lathered up) on the armpits. I did both of them quickly, completely and with very little pain - I think your armpits must be less sensitive.
I did my bikini area - again definately works better and hurts less when your skin is lathered up. I do have to say that this was a definately painful process. While it still works great on this area, I think waxing may stil be best for a couple reasons. 1) Waxing does the whole area in one fell swoop and therefore you are only in pain for a moment as opposed to several minutes with the epilator; because your bikini line is so sensitive, this makes a big difference. 2) It is nearly impossible to epilate a "shape" to your grooming because of the bulkiness of the head. Unless you're removing all hair it would be difficult to do just a certain area. (For this reason I gave four stars not five)
I happend to have a few mutant hairs on my chin that I have to pluck every now and again; just for giggles I tried it on my face (dry). It worked AWESOME. I ran over my chin a only a couple times and it got even the smallest thinest hairs you couldn't really see.
Overall great product but not the best for bikini area.

Wahl 5 Star Bump Free Shaver Review

(More customer reviews)This shaver replaced a Panasonic that cost over twice as much. The Wahl shaved faster, closer, and with less skin irritation than the Panasonic. It also lasted longer between charges. The only flaw immediately apparent was the lack of a pop-up trimmer. I thought it was an excellent value. I have a heavy beard, and it did the job. After having the product for a while, I purchased a new replacement foil & cutter bar assembly, as suggested in the instructions. The new replacement foil lasted exactly two weeks & fell apart (making it and the shaver useless)- it had a defect in the molding of the plastic which held it together. After some miscommunication, Wahl Customer Service replaced the defective part at no charge, telling me that they were aware of the defect and had remedied the situation. The shaver now works as well as it did when new.

I've used Brauns, Remmington-USA made, and the Panasonics. I purchased the ES 882 and was delighted with it's performance and speedy shave it provided. The head and foils were smooth, thorough, and quiet. Since then, the original shaver goes strong and it's batteries hold a charge and last as if it was brand new. I've never had the case apart except for cleaning. Fast forward to today, I have used and enjoyed this shaver so much, I have ordered my next set of blades and foil. These, seen on this page, never disappoint and continue to deliver a close, smooth shave. I've used several newer Panasonic shavers, all sharp and consistent, but the good old 882 is the workhorse of the group and the one used for travel and rough duty because it can take it and so do the blades and foil. If your shaver uses this set, rest asssured it will perform well with a new set. I also use the Remmington shaver saver spray. It lubes and sharpens the entire head. It can be used once a week with amazing results. Great for extending the cutting life of your current set of blades/foil. If you've been pondering purchasing this set, do it, you won't be sorry in the least.

Razorba Back Hair Shaver Review

(More customer reviews)Okay, I have back hair. Not real thick or matted, but very visible. Black and straight and fairly long, in patches shaped like upside-down Ls across each shoulder and down my outer back.
I've never heard a woman say, "Wow, back hair is hot," so a few years ago I started to do something about it.
Initially I tried duct-taping a razor to a kitchen spatula in order to extend my reach. It was still very difficult to get reach all areas of my back and get GOOD contact and get the hair off. Eventually I would get a good shave, but it would usually take me well over an hour of stretching and straining, and by the time I was done my bathroom looked like it had been the site of a hairy, bloody war.
I first saw an ad for the Mangroomer (also available from Amazon) and tried that, but was disappointed. I thought it would be less brutal on my back than sliding a razor around there, but it didn't cut very close at all. Maybe it would work fine for some people; maybe those with fine light-colored back hair. It gets plenty of positive reviews on Amazon. But it didn't work well for me.
The Razorba worked much better for me. I used it with a Gillette Atra Plus razor blade (two blades plus a lubricating strip, and a pivoting head), aligning the razor as shown on the Razorba website. I got a good shave in MUCH less time than my old spatula, razor and duct tape contraption -- maybe about 15 minutes. It might take you a little longer to get the hang of it -- the fact that I'd had previous "practice" using a much more difficult tool surely helped me. Bottom line, it was a much easier and faster task than I'd expected.
Tips:
- I first wetted myself down in the shower, and applied shaving gel. The gel helps a LOT. Hint: If you can't reach all parts of your back to apply the gel, apply it to the wall of your shower and rub your back against it to get it on.
- For the first pass, I shaved in the shower with the shower off, mostly going over my back by feel. I ran the tub water, and rinsed the razor off frequently.
- Rather than trying to move the razor in one direction only -- stroke, lift, replace, stroke, lift, replace -- I recommend just moving the razor blade up and down without lifting it from your skin. Kinda back and forth, as if you were using it to RUB the hair off. That maintains good contact with your skin the whole time. This is the technique that worked best for ME, anyway. If you keep lifting the blade from the skin and repositioning it, it's harder to keep the angle right.
- After the first pass, I rinsed off in the shower, then took a look in my batroom mirror. I still had big patches about the size of my hand, below each shoulder blade, that had to be reshaved. I applied more shaving gel as described before, and used the "rub up and down" technique described above to get the rest of that hair off while checking myself in the mirror. It was also easier to shave my shoulders with the aid of a bathroom mirror.
- If you are having difficulty getting the hair off with your strokes, you MIGHT try this: Take the razor blade out of the razor, turn it around so that it faces the other way, and put it back in the razor that way. Now you're saving action will be a "pushing" rather than a pulling action. That might help you get the hair, by cutting in a different direction with regard to the direction of your hair growth.
- Be careful and don't push so hard that the razor digs into your skin. This wasn't a real problem for me, as I believe the design of a modern razor blade makes this unlikely. What requires more care: Be careful not to move the razor blade SIDEWAYS across your skin in a slicing motion; you'll cut yourself that way. Do that a lot, and you'll look like you just had sex with Catwoman or something. I got careless and did give myself two raw scrapes that way, the first time. (They were more like scratches than deep cuts.) With more practice, it should be easier to avoid this.
Two main "passes" as I've just described, plus some minor spot clean up in the mirror, were enough to get all the back hair off with a smooth shave. Again, I was pleased to find that the Razorba did a good job rather quickly and was pretty easy to use -- much easier than any other self-shaving technique I'd tried.
How often do you need to reshave? This will vary for you, based on the coarseness of your hair, how fast it grows, how "smooth" you want to keep yourself. I think once a month or two should suffice for me.

Braun Activator 8595 Solo Shaver, Refurbished Review

(More customer reviews)I've been a user of Braun shavers for over 15 years and have owned about 5 different models. This isn't to say that the old ones didn't last... in fact, all but one of them still work. I traded up to better technology as Braun produced it.
But eventually, a tool is nearly perfected. The major leaps of technology start to slow and you find that there's really not much more to be done, save changing the appearance or marketing aims. The latest Braun 9595 Pulsonic shaver is a beautiful feat of engineering and looks the part for a place in the modern high tech world of today. But... beneath it all, it is really not much different from the 8595 Activator.
The 8595 has a reasonable running noise (slightly more so than the Norelco, but quieter than the 7000 series), effective cutting technology, excellent battery life, and the right balance of weight and grip. The LCD display shows you how long your shave is taking (and retains that, so you can see how long your last shave was), the total number of shaves performed with the unit, how much charge on the battery is left (which goes down to the minute once less than 10 minutes are available--quite accurate, too), and how much longer the shaver needs to be plugged in to achieve a full charge. It's definitely more useful than the less informative LED lights on lesser models.
Performance wise, the shaver works admirably. You do have to learn how to shave with an electric razor, though, in order to optimize the capability. With a little skill, you can get nearly as close as a blade. I find that I do with mine. And really, getting a shave that close without the danger of nicks and irritations is preferable to me.
One of the other key features of this model is the cleaning station improvement. The older 7000 series had this lock down arm that made the unit more bulky, but even worse an inner tab is prone to breakage after a year of use that makes it impossible to lock down the shaver. The 8000 series solved this design beautifully. And in essence, this is still the same basic cleaning station included with the 9595, aside from a few cosmetic upgrades.
NOTE: This particular unit is the shaver alone--no cleaning station. Although it is not essential to have it (you can indeed clean the razor just fine with a brush), it is a nice benefit. The Braun cleaning solution does indeed scour the blades super clean and leaves a fresh clean smell.
If you are considering the 9595, I'll tell you what the differences are: The 9595 obviously has an updated appearance. There is also an indicator that tells you when to change the shaving head cassette. Yes, "cassette", as the foil and cutter block are now molded into one unit. This recommendation is... well, not very accurate. I believe it is based on the shaving count, which is not representative of the total cutting time. If someone takes 2 minutes versus 5 minutes, then the shaving head change indicator will be premature. Also, the foil part may be perfectly fine... it is the cutter block which gets dull over time. On the 8595, you can replace just the cutter block. On "that auction site" you can find a seller who offers that cutter block for $10. That's a dramatic difference from the $50 you'll pay for the "cassette" you have to change on the 9595.
Also, you should know that the next model version, the 8995 360 Complete, is practically identical to the 8595 Activator, except for some very minor cosmetic differences and the "blade change" indicator. Otherwise, it is the same device. In fact, you can interchange the cleaning station and plug between the two models.
So, in my book, the 8595 is the best value shaver available from Braun.

(More customer reviews)I've always been leary of women's shavers, since my past experiences haven't been good, but Norelco's new "Moi for Me" women's shaver is an exception. It has been designed with a women in mind. The entire unit is thinner than past attempts, which have been bulky and hard to handle. The ergonomical handle is comfortable to hold and the on/off switch is wonderful. The shaver head is much easier to use & clean and it's small enough to get into small areas. The pivoting head also helps get into the curves and hard to reach areas. The unit has to be charged for 16 hours before the first use and you don't have to charge it again until it runs down (Norelco suggests that the battery been completely used before charging it). You must be careful to not damage the foil, which covers the cutter. If the foil should become damaged (very delicate and can bend easily) you'll have to replace it. The unit comes with a very cool and unique charging base, which can be stored away easily or mounted. It also comes with a shower hanging hook. My only issue so far is that the shaver doesn't work as well on dry skin as it does with wet soapy skin. The first time (and each time after) I used the shaver I got almost the same results as with a traditional disposable razor, which blew me away. Easy to clean unlike my last Norelco.
Only problem seems to be it needs a charge every week. But it charges right up and you can shave with it plugged in if necessary.

I travel quite a bit for work, and I like to pack as lightly as possible so the Braun Pulsonic usually stays at home. I have three different battery-operated Braun travel shavers that were made over the last 15-20 years, but I'm not completely happy with any of them. The latest PocketGo P-70 isn't bad--it actually might do my neck a tiny bit better than my Pulsonic--but I don't like using it for a full shave because it takes forever and doesn't do a very good job on my cheeks.
A few months ago I saw this Philips Norelco HQ40 battery shaver on Amazon and decided to give it a try. Man, I'm impressed! The little $20 Philips gives a great, close shave in a reasonable amount of time. As a bonus it is easier to clean with the little brush they give you than my PocketGo is. Since my last trip, I've started using the HQ40 at home on occasion, since I'm starting to think it gives me a better shave than my pricey Pulsonic.
My only niggle is I'd like a more secure fitting travel cap, or maybe a pouch, but the shaver itself is fine. Also, the Braun PocketGo can be used wet, where this Philips Norelco is dry use only. Battery life has been very good. I've probably shaved at least 15 times with it and I'm still using the set of Philips alkaline AAs that came with it.

(More customer reviews)Alas, the days of needing to go to a hair stylist - or even needing a comb - are long gone for me. I've been cutting my hair at home for years since I don't see the point in paying someone to cut what little I have left. I've used traditional clippers and they work well, but it's almost impossible to cut your own hair using regular clippers - you need someone to help, especially on the back of your head.
The Shortcut trimmer solves that problem perfectly. It's no harder to use than a brush. Just adjust the setting to the length you want, then move it slowly across your head.
It comes with two types of guides. One is for traditional hair cutting. The other is for shaving your head bald (or very, very close). You have to use the correct guide if you expect to get good results. The reviewer who had a problem with this clearly was using the incorrect guide. The manual explains this - always pays to take a minute to read the manual before using a product.
Very easy to clean. The blades are washable (although the unit itself is not) or you can just brush out the hair with the cleaning brush. Not too loud - about the same as a conventional hair clipper.
You get the best results if you cut just a bit at a time. For example, if you want to end up with 1/4 inch hair, start at the highest setting. After making a few passes , dial it down one notch. Repeat until you're at the length you want. Once you have your hair at the length you want, you can do a touch-up trim once a week to keep it at that length. Now that I have the hang of it, it takes me about 5 min to give myself a haircut.
It also has a trimmer for sideburns and around your ears. It cuts well, but it can be a bit unwieldy to use around the ears. I have a smaller trimmer that I use for that. The trimmer on the Shortcut does do a good job on sideburns.
So, with the caveat that you need to learn how to use it correctly, this is a fantastic product. Highly recommend.

Braun Series 3-360 solo Men's Shaving System Review

(More customer reviews)I had used a Remington Classic since around 1986. Since they stopped making that, I just wanted a simple shaver that can handle longer stubble without fuss (I often go a few days without shaving). This one fits the bill. Things I like:
1. No fancy "cleaning station" to take up yet more real estate on my bathroom counter - also less bulky for travel, and I can handle cleaning under the tap and with a brush anyway.
2. Hacks through a few days of stubble without any problem - actually a pleasure to use, feels kinda like a cadillac running around your face
3. There is a trimmer in between the two foils, which I believe helps to handle the longer hairs.
4. Also a pop-up trimmer for doing stuff like cleaning up the hairs above the ear area etc. Works very well.
5. Charges up reasonably quickly (a couple of hours).
6. Nice foil guard which also covers the "on" switch for traveling, to make sure it can't switch on in your bag
7. Very simple universal charger which is light and works with 110-240V.
8. The head has independent suspension - each foil moves like on its own springs. Very nice feeling on the face.
9. Good quality German engineering.
All in all I am very happy with this shaver. The first time I used it, it seemed to not give a very close shave, and pulled a couple of hairs - but subsequent shaves have been much better. Maybe the shaver needed a day to run in, or maybe I got used to it... either way, I actually look forward to shaving now.
My only concern is that there is apparently a nickel metal hydride battery inside, rather than lithium, which means it'll probably eventually run out of recharge cycles (like my electric toothbrush, which is a few years old now and doesn't hold a charge very long any more). Also I can't see any instructions for replacing the battery, so I guess once that goes then it's time for a new shaver. But in the meantime I'm sure I'll get a couple of years at least of good, fuss-free shaving.
