(More customer reviews)So here's the deal: I owned a Panasonic ER389K for about two years and it worked great. Then the battery died and it is not replacable. I thought, "Forget this, I'm getting a dual mode trimmer." I ordered the Remington MB40. Well actually two. One of the pins that holds on the depth gauge broke off even before I got to use the first one. It turns out that if the depth is set to "0" then there is at least a reduced possibility of breaking these pins. Then I got the second one, gingerly handled the depth gauge as if it might break, charged it up and began trimming. I was immediately impressed with the power. I was not impressed with how close of a trim I could get. But I discovered that if I used the mustache trimmer (about 1/2" wide) I could get as close a trim as I got with the Panasonic. Very tedious. After a couple of weeks of this I ordered a new Panasonic. It's less expensive, the depth gauge will not break, I can get a much closer trim, the charger is built in, it's smaller, it's much simpler to use, and loads quieter. THAT'S 7 THINGS BETTER! I decided that I could do without the corded feature - I don't like cords anyway.
I don't believe that there are any trimmers that are water proof - that would be a useful feature for cleaning.

(More customer reviews)I've owned an old Sharper Image Ultra Groomer for years, and it still works very well. However, the charge no longer holds, and I've since run out of blade oil. I should have just gotten more blade oil for it, but I figured I'd "upgrade" with a new groomer. The features of the GR-T300 seemed impressive, so I decided to give it a shot.
Within 2 months (just over 1 month, actually), the new groomer will not hold a charge, and even while plugged in, the motor will eventually die. Obviously a faulty unit, but surprising being that my old groomer is STILL cutting after years and years of use. I keep my hair buzzed tight, so I use these groomers for beard and head hair. The old Ultra Groomer cuts nice and close w/ the shortest attachment (3mm), but this new trimmer on its lowest setting does not cut as close. I also noticed I had to go over several times for it to cut completely. Since it's obviously a faulty unit, it may all be related, but cutting length probably has nothing to do with that.
The guard is quite large, so it makes it very difficult for trimming head hair around/behind ears, as well as facial hair (mustache) near the nose. You just can't get into those tight spots because of that.
The vacuum feature was definitely nice. It won't catch every hair, but it does make a big difference. The motor is fairly quiet and smooth, that is, when it was working correctly. It also charged up quickly, and the timer is a nice addition. Of course, that all means nothing when the product dies, as did mine.
Overall I'm disappointed in this product, as I expected much more from Sharper Image, especially since I've had that old trimmer for so long. I'll be sending it back, and I am hoping to get a refund instead of a replacement, being that the cutting performance was nothing special. Instead of replacing it, I will be purchasing some blade oil for the old one.

(More customer reviews)I have been using this shaver for about a year and it wasn't giving me a very close shave. My father recommended that I try Williams Lectric Shave. I don't know what that stuff does, but I now get a shave almost as smooth as a blade.
If you do have this shaver, you can make your own solution instead of the refill kits from Braun:
* denatured alcohol
* Singer sewing machine oil,
* McCormick pure lemon extract, This is optional. You'll need this if you want your razor to have that lemony fresh smell. Be sure to get extract, not lemon juice. Lemon extract is an oil made from the skins.
Directions:
Rinse the empty cartridge with water. I don't bother to completely clean it out. Just rinse it a few times, then let it dry.
1/2 teaspoon lemon extract.
1/2 teaspoon machine oil.
5 3/4 oz of alcohol.
I mix it in a little pitcher with a screw on top that I bought at Wal*Mart. After I shake it up, I pour it into the Braun cleaning cartridge.

The foil screens are delicate and can be easily damaged if mishandled. Mine had big gaping holes in it which can tear a face to pieces. The replacements arrived intact, each in its own tiny white box which is about 2" x 3/4" in size (within a larger box, of course). They slide easily into the shaver head. I was just happy parts were still available.

Before i bought this shaver there was one person who gave it a 5 and two who gave it a 1 and i hesitated buying but but im glad i went through with it. They said you don't get a case with the shaver which is UNTRUE. You definitly do. The main i want from a shaver is a close shave and this one performes. I only had one electric shaver before this a corded norelco unit that is horride. It has the lift and cut system and does not cut close at all. I think the "lift & cut" is a gimic really if you look at the blades really close. Im rating this on overall performance/features and not on performance/price ratio or i would have given it a 5. The reviewers who said the side trimmer doesn't work well are right but i really couldn't care as i wouldn't use it anyways. Other than that the only thing that could make it better would be a self cleaning system and the ability to use it in the shower....but what do you expect for this price

(More customer reviews)I have used my new Norelco 8240XL for about 3 weeks now, and I find it works very well in all respects. It shaves much closer than my old Norelco Arcitec, with which I was extremely disappointed. The shave is so smooth that the first time I used it, I thought it wasn't shaving at all, but it shaves closer than any electric razor I've ever had and almost as close as a straight razor. It's that good. Plus, it shaves very quietly, a huge improvement over the racket caused by my old Arcitec. Cleaning is easy, as you just press a release lever, the head pops up, and you either brush or rinse under hot water. Unlike many electric razors, the trimmer pops out far enough to be very usable. Battery life is exceptional. Replacing the razor heads once a year should be a breeze. I have no idea, of course, how long this razor will last, but it looks and feels sturdy enough. I wish it had a battery indicator, which can be had on the more expensive 8250 and 8251 XL models. But I got a great price and a discount coupon at Costco, so I jumped at the chance to buy this razor. I'm extremely happy with this purchase.

(More customer reviews)The Silk Epilator is a nice alternative to waxing because it's a lot cheaper in the long run. Your legs also stay smooth for a while afterwards, just like waxing. Unfortunantely it hurts much more than waxing does. A lot of times I'm tempted to just shave because it hurts a lot. Also, I've been having an excess of ingrown hairs, so after using the epilator, I have to go in with my tweezers and get those too. If you are willing to put up with the pain and the long amount of time it takes to do this, then this product is for you.
